Biscuit jointers are designed to create perfect joints in all types of wood quickly and easily. Using a tungsten carbide tipped grooving cutter, with a plunging motion they cut crescent shaped slots into both surfaces being jointed. Wooden biscuits are then glued into the slots, aligning, strengthening and creating a perfect strong joint. The wooden biscuits are often made from compressed wood and the glue expands the biscuit which helps to strengthen the joint.
The biscuit jointer was invented in Switzerland in 1956 as a way to create a strong join for the recently introduced chipboard. Biscuit jointing is commonly used for joining sheet metal such as plywood, particle board and medium density fibreboard and can also be used in solid wood to replace mortice and tenon joints.
All of our biscuit jointers have vertical adjustment and fence alignment and come with dust collection bag or adaptors to allow them to be used with dust extraction systems. Choose from Festool and Dewalt based on your preferences and carpentry needs.
